Full of excitement and anticipation I went to pick up Andrew from university yesterday and Mike then dropped us off at Newcastle Airport. In true Janet style we were dead early and had to wait for an hour before we could check in with Flybe and sat drinking coffee with Mike and said our farewells. It was the hardest thing to do as Mike and I have never been apart for this long before. The longest time was when I went on a cruise with Mum and Dad through the Panama Canal a life-time ago. Andrew was in good spirits and really looking forward to our adventure and we decided take turns choosing a song on the i-pod. We soon descended into a giggling mass as each song was accompanied by miming and air guitar. The flight was quiet and I soon became aware of people moving away from us as we laughed through each ridiculous song. I haven't had so much fun for ages. We booked into our hotel and I realised that I had no clothing suitable for dinner and looked interesting in flip flops and a summer skirt, especially as most people seemed to be heading off on a skiing holiday and were well wrapped up.
Jurassic Park 3 was the chosen movie when we got back to our room and in true 'grown up' form I fell asleep half way through it and woke up in time for the credits. I should have put more movies on as I then slept really badly. Why? Because I couldn't turn the air conditioning down nor open the windows. Modern hotels insist on being hermetically sealed and it is not good for a woman of my age! Boy was oblivious to the heat and was wrapped up in his duvet just as he used to be as a baby - no part of him was visible expect his head - how did he do it?
In the morning we woke up and practised some yoga before breakfast. I am so stiff from the flight I dread to think how bad I will be by Sunday morning. You will be pleased to know that breakfast was much better than the Cairndale Hotel (Check out the review for the Hullabaloo in Dumfries if you missed it) and we managed to check into our flight - we now only have four & half hours before we fly. We are currently sitting in Frankie & Benny's letting the time pass by before searching for somewhere that may be showing the rugby match later.
We arrive in Goa in the morning (6am ish our time, 11am Goan time) and are expecting really sunny weather in the 30s. I guess that I will have to get used to sleeping in the heat after all!
Hopefully, Indian electrics and wifi allowing, we will be able to let you know that we arrived safely.
Our adventure is just beginning.
