Yin Yoga Teacher Training

Yin Yoga has captured my interest since we did a session with the beautiful Nana Sun when in Goa. It is a slow paced yoga style where you hold the poses for several minutes to work deeply into the joints and thereby impact upon the connective tissues improving mobility. As I get older this stiffening up process resonates with me and I can see the discomfort that Mike is in so I am hopeful that this will be really good for us as we age. It is also a calming practise and soothing to the mind.

So when I returned from India I searched the internet to see if I could find any training locally but unfortunately there was nothing. However I managed to find a four day intensive teacher training course in Cork, Ireland and here I am!

I flew from Glasgow airport and the journey was uneventful, arriving in a foggy Cork yesterday. Apparently the airport had been closed for a few days due to the fog and looking at the conditions we were lucky to land at all. Lady luck was with me!

I checked into a local B&B in Carrigaline which is a suburb of Cork and explored the town, before attending the yoga studio for two back to back yoga classes which kept me gainfully employed for the evening before turning into bed.

The next morning over breakfast I met a fellow yogini, Sharon, who is Canadian but lives in Sweden and we walked up to the studio together and met the rest of our classmates as well as our teacher Josh Summers from Boston. Josh, from Boston USA, is an acupuncturist and has been practising yoga since he was at college. I had wondered what on earth he was doing holding a workshop in Carrigaline until he explained that he came to the university of Cork as a student for a year and stayed with a family in Carrigaline so it was a great opportunity for him to return and catch up with his old school mates.

The first day dealt mainly with theory and was very interesting. The time flew and the note taking was copious! I am expecting much more practise today.

We finished after 5pm and after freshening up Sharon and I met up with Angie a fellow yogini from Canada and had a meal in an Italian restaurant in town. The food, unfortunately, was decidedly average but the company was good and we chatted until late over a couple of bottles of wine. I was amazed to find that it was nearly midnight when I returned back to my room. Where had my first day gone to?

Heading off now and hope to provide a more comprehensive update tomorrow .... but at least you know I have made it here and survived the first day ..... no adventures yet but the bright lights of Cork beckon tonight so goodness knows what the evening shall bring!

Namaste
