Madhur Jaffrey's Indian Cookbook

Madhur Jaffrey's Indian Cookbook

This is the first Indian cookbook I ever bought. As a kid I hated indian food and my mum was quite an adventurous cook for the time and would cook us curry at home, but she would always have to take some of it out for me before adding the curry spices. My dislike for curry continued for several years after leaving home and it wasn't until I was accidently given the wrong kebab which had extra chilli sauce on it, down the Old Kent Road in London on a night out, that I found I liked the taste of fire in my mouth! This started my culinary journey exploring Asian cuisine. I am not sure if I caught Madhur Jaffrey on TV at the time which then inspired me to buy the book but this book was a great buy and is an absolute diamond. Nearly every page is spattered with spices and years of cooking. It is well used and loved but may no longer pass the health & safety test but who cares! The Chicken in a sweet red pepper sauce (Page 79) is the family favourite, alongside Chicken in a fried onion sauce (Page 72), Dry potatoes with ginger and garlic (Page 114) and Black-eyed beans with mushrooms (Page 128). I could go on! The recipes are easy to follow and simply delicious. If you get the opportunity my advice is to buy buy buy.
