I have had a mixed relationship with Gordon Ramsey, not personally of course, purely as a cook! I love him on TV and have lapped up all of the energy of Hell's Kitchen, Boiling Point, Kitchen Nightmares, The F Word and the Ultimate Home Cooking series. However, when he first entered the cook book arena I found him too 'chefy' for me. I am a simple soul and his recipes did not flow naturally in my home kitchen.
I bought this book when I was working incredibly long hours and travelling 100 miles a day for the privilege! I was looking to put good food on the table and fast. Nigella Lawson hit the nail on the head when she said fast food doesn't mean it has to be cooked fast, suggesting that you come home, throw a chicken in the oven and have a bath. That's so right! Gordon's book has the opposite ethos, cook everything quickly. I couldn't get on with it. Having had a frantic day at work, fought my way home and step into the kitchen, the last thing I wanted to do was be frenetic. I have tried some of the recipes but it has been a long time since this book has made an appearance in the kitchen. However, it would be interesting to look at this book with fresh eyes now I am working from home, and feel more chilled. Interesting idea ... fast food for when you have a little bit more time on your hands!
