I was introduced to Ashtanga yoga by Sonja Appel in India as part of my teacher training course. i really loved this style of teaching mainly because I am unsure about how to approach self practice. How should I structure my own session? How do I make sure I continue to progress? It's 99% practice...

It is fair to say that the energy level in class was diminished on the morning of Day 4. How much of that was as a result of 3 full days of Yin Yoga or an evening of Guinness in the pub the night before, is left to your imagination!
We had a full day ahead of us as we meditated and then worked our...

I am not very good at keeping still and meditative practises are an enigma to me on the whole. As soon as I hear "Make yourself comfortable and prepare for meditation" my mind goes into overdrive as I grab every blanket, bolster, block and cushion in sight and try to find a comfortable position. I...

We arrived in good time for the session today and secured our spot. Isn't it funny how you stake your place and remain anchored to it for the duration of the course. It does of course help Josh to remember our names so we did consider, albeit it briefly, mixing it up a little to confuse him ... but...

Yin Yoga has captured my interest since we did a session with the beautiful Nana Sun when in Goa. It is a slow paced yoga style where you hold the poses for several minutes to work deeply into the joints and thereby impact upon the connective tissues improving mobility. As I get older this...

Today we were to learn tricks and flips - all of those things that you really don't think you can do but in reality it is more of technique than raw strength.
After watching Devi demonstrate the poses I would think to myself how straight forward it looked but somehow it was much more difficult than...

When I finished writing my last update I could barely move my body was so stiff, so I hobbled upstairs and had a really hot soak in the bath and it made a real difference so when I awoke the next morning I felt much much better.
Estelle is my fellow student and owns a Bikram studio in Liverpool and...

A few days before I started my course I spoke to Mike about the logistics of it. "You know," I said "you'll have to cook dinner each evening, as I'll be really late and won't have time." The look of shock spread across his face. "What?" I could tell that this was a step too far. So we compromised....

I started doing aerial yoga about two years ago and it is an amazing experiance, where hammocks are attached to the ceiling and you use them as a prop to help you stretch your body, get into deeper poses and inversions.
Devi at the Purple Lotus is the primary aerial yoga teacher in the...

My little yoga studio is coming on and now has a wooden floor which prevents my yoga mat creeping when leaping around doing my early morning ashtanga practice. I am also the proud owner of a futon ... at last. When Mike and I first moved in together over 25 years ago Mike fancied getting a...
